You’re waiting to enter Wrigley Stadium to watch the Cubs lose yet another game and you need a cold one. There are tons of bars located in Wrigleyville and it takes some finesse to know the best ones. If you enjoy your drinks enough, you may have to stop back on your way home. If you’re feeling some games of skeeball you can check out Sluggers and if you’re more in the mood to relax you can enjoy a beer at Red Ivy’s Tailgate Garden. Both Murphy’s Bleachers and The Cubby Bear offer great views of the game at Wrigley Field if you choose to rent their rooftops out. No matter where you stop, these four destinations will help you get pumped for the game or chill with friends.
Sluggers
Sluggers is a lot like an adult Chuck E Cheese with lots of alcohol. Called a “sports bar on steroids,” Sluggers has a dance floor and batting cages. With over 30 TVs you’re sure to get every piece of the game while enjoying your favorite brew. Sluggers also has dueling pianos on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. In addition to having a full bar, Sluggers has games for the kids too. You can enjoy your beer while watching the kids play trampoline basketball or skeeball. Food includes sandwiches, pizza, burgers and appetizers. Featured beers include PBR, Miller Lite, Corona, Sam Adams and 312.
Murphy’s Bleachers
Murphy’s Bleachers is world famous for it’s alternative seating for a Cubs game. Once known as Ray’s Bleachers and before that simply a drive up hot dog stand, Murphy’s offers beer by the pail. Famous Chicago Cubs have grabbed a beer here such as Jody Davis and Randy Meyers. In addition to serving beer, the bar also offers food and has weekly specials. T-shirts and other memorabilia are sold on site and you can enjoy Bingo and live music during the week. Murphy’s rooftop can be rented for events and there have even been weddings atop of it.
The Cubby Bear
Another world famous bar in Wrigleyville is The Cubby Bear. Established in 1953, this sports bar is over 30,000 square feet and is directly across from Wrigley Field. With private rooms overlooking the field, The Cubby Bear is the perfect location to have an event or just to lounge with friends. Food offered ranges from hot dogs to their world famous garlic fries. In addition to hosting events, The Cubby Bear also is a music venue. Cover for bands is usually around $10. The Cubby Bear has been featured in the New York Times as well as numerous other media outlets.
Red Ivy
Red Ivy is another notable sports bar that is steps from Wrigley Field. With daily specials such as $4 Jack Daniels and $4 Mimosas, Red Ivy is the place to enjoy a few drinks before hitting the town on a weekday or on the weekend. In addition to drink specials, Red Ivy is popular for it’s pizzas which are $5 off on Wednesdays. Celebrating all of the Chicago teams, Red Ivy runs specials depending on which team is playing that day. Food also includes sandwiches and salads. Known as the largest single floor venue in Wrigleyville, Red Ivy is 10,000 square feet and also has a Tailgate Garden. With lots of beers on tap, the beer garden is the place to be and watch the game. Red Ivy is also a great place to bust a move.
