Place to Be: Three Dots and a Dash

Since it’s July 31st opening, Three Dots and a Dash has been attracting the crowds. Paul McGee’s new tiki bar is the place to be seen. After many years of  vacationing in Hawaii with his family, he along with Jerrod and R.J. Melman are bringing the best of Hawaii’s booze to Chicago.3-dots-300x296

What does Three Dots and a Dash mean?  Three dots and a dash is Morse code for the letter V, which was used to symbolize victory in World War II. It’s also a Don the Beachcomber drink from the 1940s. It has a couple different types of rum, honey, allspice, Angostura bitters—all these spice elements to the cocktail. And it’s a favorite of McGee’s since he started doing tiki drinks.3-1-300x296

The Christmas in July is a punch available at Three Dots and a Dash.

Love rum? Three Dots just released a new list of 16 classic rum cocktails that range from $11-$13 and include a simple daiquiri (simple compared to the banana daiquiri on the tiki menu that’s garnished with a dolphin carved out of the fruit), a caipirinha and a cuba libre. There’s also a 10-page rum book that lists the more than 165 rums available, as well as other cane spirits.

We can’t wait to try this River North bar! Go and grab a festive cocktail while listening to top 40 (hopefully Rihanna to really make it feel like we are in the tropics) in this unique one of a kind setting!
